Admission Requirements for French Community Higher Education

The Higher Education in Wallonia-Brussels (French Community) is completely merged into the European Higher Education Area. The French community higher education institutions provides- bachelor, master and doctoral degree programmes. 

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements may vary depending on the area of study and institution. 

Bachelor Degree

Students must possess a secondary school leaving certificate or its equivalent. Those who possess a foreign secondary education certificate must submit an application to the Equivalence Department of the Ministry of Federation Wallonia-Brussels in order to receive equivalence recognition of the secondary school leaving certificate. After the certificate is recognised, you’re eligible to apply to the Bachelor’s degree program. 

Master’s Degree

Students must possess a relevant Bachelor’s degree. Along with that, professional experience is also considered by some of the higher education institutions. 

Complementary Master’s Degree (CM) - To gain admittance into CM programme, students must possess a graduate degree awarded by a higher education institution corresponding to 300 ECTS credits. This degree is gained after 5 years of full-time study. 

Doctorate Degree

For admission to doctorate programmes, pupils must have a Master’s degree corresponding to 300 ECTS credits or a graduate degree equivalent and assessed at 300 ECTS credits by the Admissions committee of the institution.
A doctoral thesis is written under the directions of a supervisor. Students are required to submit a draft thesis along with a written agreement of a supervisor, in order to apply for the doctorate programme. 

Admission Procedure

Fill out an application form of the individual higher education institution. Submit it along with the required documents to the institution admission office. If accepted, you’ll receive a “letter of acceptance”. Once you receive the letter, pay the tuition fees.

 Following documentation is required-

Completed Application form: fill out the form completely and correctly.

A valid passport photocopy and passport-size photographs

Recommendation Letters: At least two letters of recommendation 

Academic Record: Certified copies of academic records 

Financial Support Evidence: Financial documents stating that you are able enough to handle your study and other expenses for the entire duration of the programme.

Language Proficiency Certificates: French language proficiency certificate, and/or English language proficiency certificate (if applicable)

French Language Proficiency

DELF (Diplome d’etudes en langue francaise) B1 Level

The Candidates are required to submit a DELF B1 Level certificate. It indicates that the candidate knows French very well. He/She has a good knowledge in the language and can communicate and write well in the same.
